Shapes

Harter Reed Co. currently has 8 shapes on offer. They are, in order from most high partial favoring to most low partial favoring, as follows: Fox 1, Fox2, Herzberg, Sakakeeny Van Hoesen, Rieger 1A, Knochenhauer, Christlieb Narrow, and Christlieb.

Each shape can be used effectively across the whole range of the instrument, but will require different amounts of air and produce different tone colors. The Christlieb shapes are Mechler or Goblet shapes and produce a darker tone. The other shapes are concave or nearly straight offering a brighter tone. In general, wider shapes favor the low register and narrower shapes the high register.
